"Powerful. This may be one of theifew inspirational movies that could actually inspire someone." -Richard Schickel, Time
"Eminem wins by a knockout!" raves Rolling Stone, as the Grammy Award-Winning phenomenon makes his feature film debut in this gripping story about the boundaries that hold us back-and the courage that can set us free.
For Jimmy Smith, Jr. (Eminem), life is a daily fight just to keep hope alive. Feeding his dreams in Detroit's vibrant music scene, Jimmy wages an extraordinary personal struggle to find his own voice-and earn a place in a world where rhymes rule, legends are born and ever moment...is another chance. From Academy Award winner Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential) and Oscar-winning producer Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind), 8 Mile is the triumphant film Time Magazine hails as "Powerful!" and Entertainment Weekly applauds as "Electrifying" and "Mesmerizing!"

Excellent film and I don't like Eminem - 5 out of 5 (5/21/2003)
So you might have passed on 8 MILE because you thought Eminem was vile, or that the kid had no style.
Well, if that's the case, then you are right, cause the kid ain't Olivier, he more like DOLEMITE.
But it just don't matter, cause the kid ain't the top dog. Those props belong to the Director and for this type of shit, they ain't nobody better.
Curtis Hanson, He's the man, so drop your nasty thoughts and give him a hand. He took a film about a kid from the wrong side of the tracks, a

Great Movie - 4.25 out of 5 (3/24/2005)
This is a very inspiring story. You do not have to like Eminem's songs to like this movie. It's not about Eminem's life, it's about strungling in life and not giving up hope. It's one of the best movies from 2002.

very underrated - 5 out of 5 (3/20/2003)
I don't know why everyone is down on this movie. I guess everyone thought it was just gonna be Eminem rapping through the entire movie. There is actually a good storyline in this movie and Eminem is a much better actor than I expected. This is a quality film and well worth a look.
