Former author Paul Freeman (Modine) teaches creative writing at a local prison, where ex-Black Panther Charles (Babatunde) is a star pupil. Sentenced to life in prison for abetting a homicide, Charles has one dream: to become a father to the son he never met. Only one thing stands in his way: Sharon (Michele Greene, TV's L.A. Law), the sister of the murdered victim.
With Paul's help, Charles drafts a letter to Sharon that will change their lives, offering each of them the second chance they desperately need to be redeemed.
