American time travelers (including David Cassidy) from 2176 set their wayback machine to 1776. They land instead in 1976, the throbbing, do-the-hustle heart of a decade unlike any other. With the help of two stoner kids (Redd Kross rockers Jeff and Steve McDonald), the explorers experience this loopy era of mood rings, 8-track tapes, leisure suits, beanbag chairs, sensitivity sessions and streaking. And with the help of Carl Reiner, Rob Reiner, Leif Garrett, Moon Zappa, Tommy Chong, Devo and more, The Spirit of '76 is fast, spoofy and above all, spirited.
