A Double-Disc Set...
"We were somewhere around Barstow when the drugs began to take hold."
It is 1971, and journalist Raoul Duke barrels towards Las Vegas to cover a motorcycle race, accompanied by a trunkful of contraband and his slightly unhinged Samoan attorney, Dr. Gonzo. But what is ostensibly a cut-and-dry journalistic endeavor quickly descends into a feverish psychedelic odyssey and an excoriating dissection of the American way of life. Director Terry Gilliam and an all star cast (headlined by Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Torro) show no mercy, bringing Dr. Hunter S. Thompson's legendary Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas to the screen, creating a film both hilarious and savage.

Panned by critics upon initial theatrical release, Terry Gilliam's infamous 1998 adaptation of journalist Hunter S. Thompson's equally infamous semi-autobiographical 1974 novel has become somewhat of a relic over the years, steadily gaining the audience it rightfully deserves.

Simply horrible - 2.5 out of 5 (2/27/2003)
If there was ever one book which could not be filmed it was this one and indeed they failed completely. where the book is a very good recount of a long trip, this movie is an embarrasment to all who were involved: bad acting horrible cinematography etc...In short a bad idea gone really more wrong than thought possible. avoid at all costs. read the book instead.
