Synopsis
A Man Of Genius.
Women of Passion.
And The Mystery Of A Lifetime.
The Untold Story of Ludwig van Beethoven.

Gary Oldman, Jeroen Krabbe, Isabella Rossellini and Valeria Golino star in Immortal Beloved, a mesmerizing mystery based on the tumultuous real life of Ludwig van Beethoven. Oldman gives a tour de force performance as the passionate, volatile genius who inspired love and hatred in equal measure. Whether seducing regal followers or criticizing the ruling class, Beethoven made many enemies. But he also had one true love - the unnamed "Immortal Beloved" mentioned in an enigmatic letter discovered upon his death. The thrilling search for the identity of this mystery woman leads us into Beethoven's dark past, his hidden passions and, ultimately, into the unparalleled genius of his music.

Good - 4.25 out of 5  (3/12/2003)
This movie is good. Being a Beethoven fan I enjoyed this very much. The music is wonderful. The scene when the 8th symphony is performed for the first time is my favorite scene from a movie. If your not a Beethoven fan I don't know whether or not you'll like it. Its worth renting though.   more >>

What a great story! - 3.5 out of 5  (10/14/2002)
I've loved this film for years. Gary Oldman is awesome as Beethoven. The scenery is rich and colorful. The scene where Napoleon is bombing the home of Ludwig's countess friend, and he's hiding under a table to keep from getting killed and is wildly composing all the while (his 5th Symphony, apparently--the one where death is knocking at his door) is amazing in its intensity. Women (like myself!) love this flick because it's passionate, sad, thrilling, and beautifully done. The Ninth Symphony seq   more >>
