Dr. Constance Petersen (Ingrid Bergman) is a psychiatrist with a firm understanding of human nature -- or so she thinks. When the mysterious Dr. Anthony Edwardes (Gregory Peck) becomes the new chief of staff at her institution, the bookish and detached Constance plummets into a whirlwind of tangled identities and feverish psychoanalysis, where the greatest risk is falling in love. A transcendent love story replete with taut excitement and startling imagery, Spellbound is classic Hitchcock, featuring stunning performances, an Academy Award®-winning score by Miklos Rozsa, and a captivating dream sequence by Surrealist icon Salvador Dali.

A must see Alfred Hitchcock classic with some great special features! - 4 out of 5 (12/12/2002)
If you enjoy classic mysteries with that Hitchcock twist, here's a good one for you. Criterion pulled this one out of its stashes from 1945 and added some wonderful special features. The story focus is on Dr. Edwardes (Gregory Peck) who has come to a psychiatric hospital, Green Manor, as the new head doctor. Dr. Edwardes falls madly in love with another doctor, Dr. Constance Petersen (Ingrid Bergman) the first day he is there. Dr. Petersen, usually cool, collected and not out looking for lov

SPELLBOUND (CRITERION) - 3.75 out of 5 (10/16/2002)
Alfred Hitchcock is one of a small handful of directors with several
masterpieces to boast about, so important a filmmaker was he. Of all
those, SPELLBOUND (1945) is the most under-appreciated of all. Now more influential than ever, Criterion has finally released the
full-length version of the film to video for the first time ever.
This version adds the entrance and exit music not on most (likely all)
35mm prints that are in circulation and restores a brief color moment

First Printing is faulty on some machines - 2 out of 5 (11/29/2002)
Excellent film, shame about the DVD. Another
botched first printing by Criterion. So much
for quality control.
According to Criterion's DVD Tech Support
page in the Support and Feedback section:
"On certain player models, the first printing of Criterion's Spellbound has had difficulty loading or fails to load entirely. This problem has been corrected on all subsequent printings of this DVD." (www.criterionco.com)
You can check this on the back cover of the DVD
