Empire Review THE SERVANT - 2 out of 5  (5/7/2002) At one time, Joseph Losey was a well-discussed film director, but he became loss in the shuffle of the 1970s "golden age of film" and is not as prominent in memory. THE SERVANT (1963) is one of his successful and praised of all of his films and has an enduring screenplay adaptation by no less than Harold Pinter (the first of three altogether with Losey, from Robin Maugham's novel) and introduced the world to actor James Fox.
