My Blue Collar background never prepared me for the experience of a movie
like HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH.
Certainly, I had seen TO WONG FOO and ADVENTURES OF PRISCILLA: QUEEN OF THE
DESERT, but I daresay those films are just posers when compared with Hedwig.
And just to clear something up at the beginning, the angry inch in the
title is exactly what it would appear to be.
Our story starts with young Hansel who meets a United States serviceman

Beautifully acted, filmed, written and cast. Although it's not a "mainstream" storyline, this movie is a must see for any film buff and will be talked about for years to come.

The movie is excellent although nothing really special - if one appreciates out of the ordinary kind of films. It is just different and fresher and made for people who are fed up the usual garbage that rolls out of Hollywood.
I am not sure the necessity of the sex change becomes obvious. The boy is portrait as the son of an American army guy and hence he could have left East Germany anytime under the protection of the US government and the other allies. No?

Sure, the subject matter is disarming. You may not be ready for this story of a trans-gender rock diva with an angry inch of a botched sex-change... but don't let that stop you from the experience of this masterpiece. The music and visual artistry alone make this the absolute best rock opera film since Rocky Horror. I highly recommend Velvet Goldmine as well. These films all possess similar qualities, but Hedwig is probably the funniest and most heartbreaking. This is a very special film wh
