A comedy about celebrity, family andiother forms of insanity.
Gwen (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Eddie (John Cusack) are America's Sweethearts -- the country's favorite couple, on-screen and off. But when their very public romance turns into a very private breakup, only veteran press agent Lee (Billy Crystal) and Gwen's assistant Kiki (Julia Roberts) can help Gwen and Eddie show some love while they promote their last film together. But the press junket is in a resort hotel miles from anywhere, and while Lee and Kiki frantically try to keep the media away from the real story -- and keep Gwen and Eddie from revealing their secret -- Kiki finds something entirely unexpected in this romantic comedy about true love, happily ever after and other Hollywood endings.

A sweetheart of a film - 4.5 out of 5 (11/12/2001)
One of the best-kept secrets in Hollywood is the importance of the press secretary of a studio. These are the guys who open the doors, squelch the rumors and make or break a movie by the actions that they take. In the real world, these people would be considered a few steps below a lawyer in terms of humanity rankings, but in Hollywood, where the world is fake, the rules are made to be broken and a lie often serves better than the truth, these men and women reign supreme.

An enjoyable date or "chick flic" that is cute and pretty funny. This movie didn't get the greatest reviews but how hard is it to watch the talented Catherine Zeta-Jones and Julia Roberts as sisters. Much was made of Julia's fat suit make-up for the over-weight scenes - which are few and short. (She is still gorgeous even fat) The remainder of the movie she is typically Julia - magnetic and beautiful. The romantic comedy of the year comes home! America's Sweethearts stars Catherine Zeta-Jones, Julia Roberts, John Cusack, and Billy Cristal.
The plot is simple, a fammed sister has broken it off with fammed boyfriend. The studio company of their latest film wants them back together so thus Billy Cristal will do the job... but unexpected romances bloom between Julia and Cusack resulting very funny problems.
