On The Air. Unaware.
He's the star of the show--but he doesn't know. Jim Carrey wowed critics and audiences alike as unwitting Truman Burbank in this marvel of a movie from director Peter Weir about a man whose life is a nonstop TV show. Truman doesn't realize that his quaint hometown is a giant studio set run by a visionary producer/director/creator (Ed Harris), that folks living and working there are Hollywood actors, that even his incessantly bubbly wife is a contract player. Gradually, Truman gets wise. And what he does about his discovery will have you laughing, crying and cheering like few film stories ever have.

The Movie: - 4.5 out of 5 (1/26/1999)
The Movie:
Having been hailed as one of the best films of 1998, as well as a breakthrough role for funny man Jim Carrey, The Truman Show now makes it's debut on DVD.
The first thing that needs to be said about this movie is that it is certainly not for everyone. You will probably either love it or hate without much in between. I myself loved this film and was astonished by Carrey's excellent performance as Truman Burbank. The premise behind The Truman Show is a world created

Why Paramount, why? - 3.75 out of 5 (9/26/1999)
No exception this is another lame DVD from Paramount, just basic features. When will they realize they have such good movies and should give them more then trailers and another language track?
Either way, The Truman Show is a good film. If you don't know the Golden Globe winning story, here it is: For the past 30 years, Truman lives in a world which he believes to be world. He lives in a town, nice job, neighbors, wife etc... but some weird things start to happen and he questions it. But it tur

Not 1.85:1 - 4.25 out of 5 (8/30/1999)
The picture quality on this DVD is absolutely superb, but what is that ratio meant to be? It looks like 1.66:1, not 1.85:1. I don't know if this is meant to be some sort of half-way mark to satify both widescreen and full screen fans or something. I like widescreen and was disappointed by this fact considering the picture is otherwise perfect.
The sound is top notch, making good use of the rear channels considering the type of film that it is (not a particulary noisy one).
The film is one of m

Compelling - 4.25 out of 5 (4/29/1999)
Anyone who has a problem with this film has a problem with good filmmaking. The camera movement and shot selection is wonderful. Plus this film has a very deep message that some people who don't like the film fail to see: "Why do we accept the reality in which we are presented?" This film has the guts to ask that question in the society we live in. If you watch the film carfully, you will see that the director is really comparing it to real life! Jim Carrey gives a pretty good performance
