Synopsis
A simple plan. An instant fortune. Just add water.

The small town of Huntingburg is forced to evacuate when torrential rains bring rising flood waters. The local sheriff (Randy Quaid) and town residents, having been through this before, are all too familiar with the looting and petty thefts that take place in an abandoned town. What they are not aware of, however, is the planned heist of an armored car sent to transport the $3 million from local banks. The tension begins as the armored car breaks down and the drivers, Tom (Christian Slater) and his Uncle Charlie (Ed Asner), find themselves stranded. Their radio transmission for help is intercepted, and before they know it they are surrounded by a suspicious crew led by Jim (Morgan Freeman). Without warning the crew opens fire.

A thriller thats not all wet! - 3.75 out of 5  (5/2/2000)
Critics really drowned "Hard Rain" when it first hit the theater. The headlines read "Shallowly acted" and "all wet." Personally I think it a darn shame that critics will go to any length to get a punchline! Myself, I thought the film was a "deep" thriller that "flooded" me with emotional "impact" as the plot went along "Swimmingly!" Now! Stop that! The film actually is an overlooked gem. If it could be accused of any one thing, it might be that it tried to shove too much into one m   more >>

Waterlogged Brain Candy - 3.25 out of 5  (9/21/1999)
Expect NOTHING and you may be pleasantly surprised by this rain-soaked Treasure of Sierra Madre. It's got more plot holes than pot holes, but it shows the power of 5.1 surround sound--the lifesaver that keeps the movie afloat. The surround sound never lets up; you will swear it is raining outside. It really ads to the claustrophobic atmosphere of the film. The DVD SCREAMS for a "how did they do it?" featurette, and whether any of the actors came down with pneumonia (since they must have   more >>

Time to get wet - 3.75 out of 5  (4/6/1999)
Hard rain pours on the action and does not let go throughout. Some of the chase scenes are staged very well giving the viewer the feeling of being in the water with the actors. It's too bad the plot is somewhat brainless, still, the action is fun. I am dissapointed with the ammount of features on the DVD. The video is wide, but not anamorphic. The only feature is a trailor, I love trialors, but more would be nice. The Audio, however is fabulous. The way the rain works on the surround sp   more >>

Watery fun and lots of action. - 3.75 out of 5  (12/16/1998)
What started out to be a good story, just goes down hill and the film loses its story maybe a half an hour into the film. But I didnīt mind that instead I just concentrated on the action, itīs really based on that. This is one heck of a cocktail of action, thrills, laughs, gun shots, speed, deceit and of course a lot of water. It is an average good, no brain only did I say a lot of action?   more >>
