This irreverent and outrageously funny look into the world of professional ice hockey has Paul Newman as the coach of the Chiefs, a third-rate, minor league hockey team. To build up attendance at their games, management signs up three odd-looking players whose job it is to literally attack and demolish opposition--to the delight and cheers of a steadily increasing throng of fans.

A Great Pucking movie! - 3.75 out of 5 (3/2/2000)
Slap me silly! It's a great pucking movie!
It's the middle of hockey season and I've been watching DVD's in my quest to bring you reviews of the best of the possible stuff out there. I forgot about "Slap Shot"
Imagine, now I can combine my two passions into one.
Well, as usual I digress.
But you have to agree that "Slap Shot" comes up on the list of the five best sports movies ever made from most people.
It's the story of the Charleston Chiefs. They a

If you love hockey, get this disc! - 4.25 out of 5 (7/9/1999)
What can I say about this disc that hasn't been said already! Universal really did a great job restoring this movie. It's amazing, no broken up video (as with the VHS copy I have) and the sound is a million times better than on tape. Fantastic. As a resident of PA and a frequent visitor to Johnstown (where the movie was made), I can't believe how well George Roy Hill captured the town and the hockey culture. It is amazing. It's just a shame that real hockey can't be this good sometimes. =)

Doesn't everybody love Slap Shot? - 4.25 out of 5 (6/28/1999)

It's one of those movies that you almost feel guilty for liking, especially because 99% of the humour comes from violence and swearing, but the same could be said about Pulp Fiction. This DVD is the way the film was meant to be experienced, the picture is so clean, and so nice to look at, that I just had to give it 5. I saw this at a midnight special at a movie theater a year ago, and it didn't look half this good! Also, the audio is mono, but

Slap Shot scores! - 3.75 out of 5 (1/5/1999)
For those of you who have seen Slap Shot either on television or on videotape, you'll be pleased to know that Slap Shot on DVD is cleaner, better, and fresher than at anytime before this DVD was released. The picture quality is amazing, considering the film was released in 1977. Yet on DVD, the only hint of this film's age is the leather suit Paul Newman sports in the film. The audio is 2-channel mono Dolby Digital, though it's clean and sharp. Watching this film on network television with comme
