Empire Review A Payne in the ass! - 3 out of 5  (6/14/2000) "Major Payne" has always been something of an under-rated film. Damon Wayans has also been something of an under-rated actor. His days on "In Living Color" always seemed to be limited to a few characters that he did to death. Major Payne seems to be a combination of the best of these characters. Major Benson Winifred Payne is a perfect soldier. He is Rambo, The Universal Soldier and Gomer Pyle all rolled into one.
