Synopsis
Saving theiworldiin style.

The AVENGERS, the hip secret-agent series from '60s TV, is reinvented for the movies with a stylish blend of wit, fabulous retro fashions and effects-packed action. Ralph Fiennes is the very dapper John Steed and Uma Thurman is the smartly catsuited Emma Peel, two secret agents who fight crime with style. Sean Connery potrays Sir August De Wynter, an evil genius out to control the world with his high-tech weather machine. This madman poses quite a threat to mankind with his raging icestorms, scorching temperatures and mechanical buzz-bombing bees. But come cold, heat or dreaded plight, our two heroes never lose their cool. Tea anyone?

Worst movie ever made? Not! - 4.5 out of 5  (11/5/2000)
This movie Iooks...and sounds gorgeous. So many people are dogging the plot. The fact is, the plot here is no thinner than those in many of the original TV series. What's truly missing is the chemistry that existed between the leads of the original TV series, Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg. But c'mon, folks, no other actors now or ever could hope to re-create the magic that existed between Macnee and Rigg. I think Fiennes and Thurman did the best they could. They had some very big   more >>

Humor for the intellectual... - 4.25 out of 5  (10/12/1999)
I'm a big fan of the 60s and The Avengers is a series I really enjoy watching. The actors a great, the dvd has cool features and the sound is totally amazing. I can't seem to understand why this dvd is so cheap. Well, sometimes critics ruin things for the audience. If you liked Batman & Robin, you're gonna love this one.   more >>

Bad film, good quality DVD - 4 out of 5  (4/3/1999)
This film, at some times, is entertaining. The british humor is a tease and is sometimes fun to watch. Unfortunately, this movie has no real lasting value, no real characters, and no real plot. It's too bad Warner Brothers had to ruin a classic. The video is very crisp (and 16X9), you get a choice between wide and full. The audio is also very well defined. The disc has not too many features, but for the price, it is OK. Rent First.   more >>
