Big action. Big fun. Big Movie! Small Soldiers is one huge adventure. Meet the Commando Elite--toy action figures with an attitude. They've escaped from their boxes along with the Gorgonites, kindhearted but unusual-looking creatures. Now teenager Alan Abernathy gets enlisted to help the Gorgonites and rescue the girl of his dreams before the whole town is turned upside down. Small Soldiers is a spectacular adventure for the whole family!

A family film? Maybe not? - 4 out of 5 (9/25/2000)
It's hard to imagine "Small Soldiers" as a family film at times. While it is true that the film has a PG-13 rating at heart, you cannot deny that the actions taken by the toys are grown up and therefore quite scary at times. A in-joke by the director which has most of the Commando Elite voiced by character actors out of the "Dirty Dozen" does little to lessen this image.
I suppose that it makes a difference to have the voices of the Gorgonites voiced by the members of "Spinal Tap." This does

Small Soldiers (1998) - 4.25 out of 5 (12/17/1998)
The Movie:
Small Soldiers, one of the first three DreamWorks DVDs, is the story of a toy company that is bought by a military equipment corporation. After being purchased the company must come up with new and exciting toys in order to please their new owners. In the process of designing a new toy line they add a military microprocessor to the toy in order to make them as realistic as possible. When a shipment of toys are released before they are supposed to they begin to wreak ha

Fun movie from the director of Gremlens - 4.75 out of 5 (6/4/1999)
After a few minutes of watching this movie, you can tell that it is by the director of the Gremlens. I hate to compare the two movies, but they are very similar. Cute little toys create their own little war in a small town, and it is up to two kids to save the day. Although it is not the best film ever made, older kids (8-15) will enjoy it, and adults will think it's pretty fun. It may be too violent for younger kids (they may think their toys will torture them). Overall, a fun film with a

Coooool Movie - 4.25 out of 5 (1/5/1999)
Great specialfx and humor, very original storyline
and good action. I think if you liked Gremlins
(another Joe Dante film), you'll like Small Soldiers.
I wasn't too impressed though by the 5.1 audio on
this DVD - I didn't hear much from the surround
channels, but the video quality was excellent; no
pixelation! I highly recommend this DVD for
adding to your collection.
