The original concept was to interview 14 children from diverse backgrounds from all over England, asking them about their lives and their dreams for the future. Every seven years, Apted has been back to talk to the same subjects, examining the progression of their lives. From cab driver Tony to East End schoolmates Jackie, Lynn, and Susan and the heart-breaking Neil, we see, halfway through their lives, how close these subjects are to realizing their ambitions. Empire Review 42 UP - 2.25 out of 5  (11/11/2001) The most successful series of documentaries one one subject continues with 42 UP (1999), a project that has followed the lives of several British youths since the 1960s in an attempt (in part) to see how much change in that country was really going on with its cultural boom and the British Invasion. It began with 7 UP (1964), with Michael Apted doing much research in what was thought to be a one-shot deal, but Apted decided to take over as director and do a sequel (7 + 7 UP) and that led to thi   more >>
