Synopsis
Based on Tom Clancy's bestseller, directed by John McTiernan (Die Hard ) and starring Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin, The Hunt For Red October seethes with high-tech excitement and sweats with the tension of men who hold Doomsday in their hands. A new, technologically-superior Soviet nuclear sub, the Red October, is heading for the U.S. coast under the command of Captain Marko Ramius (Connery). The American government thinks Ramius is planning to attack. A lone CIA analyst (Baldwin ) has a different idea: he thinks Ramius is planning to defect, but he has only a few hours to find him and prove it-because the entire Russian naval and air commands are trying to find him, too. The hunt is on!

Hunt is off - D - 3.25 out of 5  (5/19/2002)
This is McTiernan's best film, and one of the best suspense thrillers ever made. A shame this disc is so ridiculously inept. This cries for a special edition - including remastering of the print as well as added materials. And I for one would love commentary by McTiernan, Connery, Milius(who wrote connery's dialogue,)and Clancy, if they can get his attention.   more >>

Great Story, Great Audio. What Happened to the Video? - 4 out of 5  (12/15/1998)
This a very good movie. The acting, story line, and fx are all first rate as is the DD 5.1. But as Michael (USA) reported, the video is generally not DVD quality. In fact, it was so grainy that I thought the disk was defective...copy #2 proved it wasn't. Still this is a terrific film.   more >>

Great movie, video needed more cleanup - 3 out of 5  (12/12/1998)
This is an absolutely great movie and I was very anxious to get it on DVD in widescreen. However, I was quite disappointed with the video quality, especially in the first parts of the movie. It was very grainy and the colors were bad. It cleared up some toward the end, but still wasn't near as good as Paramount's other releases.   more >>
