Empire Review good film - 3.75 out of 5  (9/13/2001) The most surprising thing about SPY KIDS is that it is written and directed by the same man who gave us EL MARIACHI and DESPERADO. I only say this because it seems a stretch from the violent world of the Mariachi player to the cute and clumsy kids that are the stars of this movie. But, ten minutes into the movie, I was hooked and I saw what the two had to do with each other. Robert Rodriguez is a master at action, and that seems to translate into any form.
