"Best Film Of The Decade." -Village Voice
Julianne Moore (Nine Months, Short Cuts) gives an astonishing performance as Carol White, a suburban housewife whose affluent environment suddenly turns against her. Safe is a bold, darkly comic, completely original drama depicting Carol's descent into the horrors of modern day living. Written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Todd Haynes (Poison, Superstar) Safe has been hailed as "seductive... Scarily confident, beautifully acted. It will seize any viewer who dares to surrender to its spell. Feel free to laugh or scream." -Richard Corliss, TIME MAGAZINE

He made his debut with the very controversial SUPERSTAR, in which he used figures from the Barbie Doll line to tell the tragic story of Karen Carpenter. Unfortunately, he used the music of The Carpenters throughout without permission and her surviving brother Richard (who was the other half of the singing duo) successfully sued him, stopping the fi

Challenging, but one amazing film - 3.5 out of 5 (1/28/2002)
Todd Haynes' Safe is for film-lovers, not movie-lovers. Let's get that out of the way right at the start. If your attention span can't handle anything but quick, MTV cuts... if you haven't got patience to deal with characters who sometimes say and do stupid things... if you insist on movies wrapping up in a nice, little easy-to-understand packages - don't buy this, don't rent it, don't even watch it if it comes on TV. Stay as far away from Safe as you possibly can.
For the rest of you, I can'
