What would you be like after 20 years aboard theiSpaced Out Spaceship...
The cult sci-fi classic by John Carpenter and Dan O'Bannon, presented in a new Special Edition just as the filmmakers originally intended.
In the mid twenty-first century, mankind has reached a point in technological advances to enable colonization of the far reaches of the universe. DARK STAR is a futuristic scout ship traveling far in advance of colony ships. Armed with Exponential Thermosteller Bombs, it prowls the unstable planets. But there is one obstacle that its crew members did not count on -- one of the ship's thinking and talking bombs is lodged in the bay, threatening to destroy the entire ship and crew!

'Dark Star' not too bright - 2.5 out of 5 (12/27/2001)
Before I begin, what will be a rather negative review of this forgettable 1974 effort made by John Carpenter and Dan O'Bannon, I want to clarify that I was not blindfolded and then led to the slaughter without prior awareness.
You can simply boil it down to the sad fact that I'm a HUGE Carpenter fan and that I MUST have all his films, regardless of rumored stature, that is the reasoning behind my purchasing this disc.
So as not to elude your interest in the film entirely I must offer

This is one of the best comedies of the 70's! - 4 out of 5 (5/28/2003)
Don't even rent this, buy it! Slow-moving at times, but anybody who likes dark comedies like this won't mind! It does have some cheesy scenes, but it's a student film, and you would like that song during the credits! Features are plentiful, and there are two versions of this movie-a 68min. one (the original), and the 83min. one! (It says on the back of the DVD; check the NOTE!). MUST BUY

john carpenter and dan o'bannon - 3.25 out of 5 (7/13/2001)
one of the first films from dan (aliens) o'bannon and john (vampires/the thing) carpenter is hilarious and very underrated. the part of the intelligent(!?) alien life form being played by a beachball with claws and communicates by fart noises is a high point in the movie. if you don't buy this, at least rent it to see the humble, funny beginnings of two film makers who have left a serious trail of movies to their credit through the '80's and '90's.

Great Cult SF - 3 out of 5 (9/5/1999)
This is an under-rated, humorous, cult SF movie.
Anyone who enjoys zany SF shows like Red Dwarf, and Hitchhikers Guide is likely to enjoy this movie.
