Houston, we haveia problem.
It had been less than a year since man first walked on the moon, but as far as the American public was concerned, Apollo 13 was just another "routine" space flight- until these words pierced the immense void of space: "Houston, we have a problem." Ron Howard directs Academy Award winner Ton Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, and Ed Harris in a riveting suspense-thriller from Imagine Entertainment.
Stranded 205,000 miles from Earth in a crippled spacecraft, astronauts Jim Lovell, Fred Haise and Jack Swigert fight a desperate battle to survive. Meanwhile, at Mission Control, astronaut Ken Mattingly, flight director Gene Kranz and a heroic ground crew race against time-and the odds- to bring them home.
It's a breathtaking adventure that tells a story of courage, faith and ingenuity that is all the more remarkable because it is true!

Apollo 13 (1995) - 5 out of 5 (11/30/1998)
The Movie:
Stranded 205,000 miles above the earth the astronauts of the Apollo 13 struggle to survive and make it home.
Making a movie out of a historical event is usually not an easy task as many things must be taken into consideration when dealing with fact and not fiction. The attention to detail in th

Out Of This World - 5 out of 5 (8/26/2000)
If you have any interest in the space program or if you just love good movies, you should definitely purchase this disc. It comes fully loaded, and it is superior quality. The acting, directing, and story are all top notch. While a few artistic licenses were taken with the story, it keeps true enough to the actual facts. Overall, this is one of the best DVDs to date.

What a blast! - 4.25 out of 5 (11/15/1999)
Picture quality is stunning! Surprisingly the laserdisc and DVD aren't that dramatically different. This is not because the DVD is a bad picture, but because the laserdisc was so good. The only real difference I could discern is the slightly stronger colors presented on the DVD. The DVD picture is also smoother overall, but not by that much. Black levels are strong and solid as is general color and fleshtones. The detail is nice and almost calls attention to the computer generated special effect
