The Original Masterpiece Of Revenge, Confrontation andiMurder!
Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum star in Hollywood's classic tale of revenge and murder. Robert Mitchum is unforgettable as Max Cady, an ex-con determined to exact a terrible revenge on Sam Bowden (Gregory Peck) and his family.
Sam is a small-town lawyer whose worst nightmare comes true when the criminal he helped put away returns to stalk his beautiful young wife (Polly Bergen) and teenage daughter (Lori Martin). Despite help from the local police chief (Martin Balsam) and a private detective (Telly Savalas), Sam is legally powerless to keep Max from playing his sadistic game of cat and mouse. Finally, Sam must put his family's lives at stake in a deadly trap that leads to one of the most suspenseful and heart-pounding confrontations ever committed to film.
Director J. Lee Thompson builds tension with each scene leading to a deadly showdown at Cape Fear. This is truly a masterpiece of shock and suspense.

CAPE FEAR - 2.75 out of 5 (11/11/2001)
The original CAPE FEAR (1962) has benefited from revisionist thinking thanks to the 1991 Martin Scorsese remake and is thought of now as at least a minor-classic, the way few heard much of the solo hits of former Drifters lead singer Ben E. King's solo career until Rob Reiner's film STAND BY ME (1986) used that highest-charting solo hit as the film's title song. (I tend to be impartial to "Spanish Harlem" myself.)
In the case of this film, its not a bad thing, allowing audiences to see how

Mitchum at his best - 3.75 out of 5 (9/19/2001)
This film has been on my wish list ever since I purchased my DVD player. I was not disappointed in the least. The video which is in black and white is sharp and clear and the audio which features some really period style sounds is also above average. The plot itself is above average and must have been considered quite risque for that time. Both Mitchum and Peck were in top form and turn in great performances. This DVD deserves a spot in any film library.
