"The most inventive andioriginal thrilleriin manyia moon. A maliciously entertaining murder story." -David Ansen, Newsweek
This critically-acclaimed thriller set in rural Texas combines chilling suspense with offbeat humor to create an all-American version of the classic "film noir."
Abby (Frances McDormand) is cheating on her saloonkeeper husband, Marty (Dan Hedaya). The object of her affections is Ray (John Getz), one of Marty's bartenders. Marty hires Visser (M.Emmet Walsh), an unscrupulous detective, to kill them but Visser has other, more lucrative plans of his own. So begins a calculating round of double and triple crosses that build to a bloodcurdling, surprise-filled climax. It's an evil-minded masterpiece from the exciting team of Joel and Ethan Coen.

Aside from the film, the commentary is a barrel of laughs intended to mock the film school pseudo-inteelectual analysis that many great films recieve. David Lynch chose to omit commentaries and chapter selection on the DVD for "The Straight Story" because he felt films should be watched in their entirety, and all conclusions should be l

Great Film - Highly Recommended - 3.5 out of 5 (12/5/2001)
Watch this great film on DVD! I believe there
is noticeable improvement from VHS and therefore,
a good reason to get the DVD. The audio commentary is terrible. What a disappointment!
The commentator spends a great deal of time on
subjects not concerned with this film. When he does talk about the film he goes on and on about
portions cut out of the film that involve a Bulgarian character. The more you hear about it, the more convinced you are that someone made the right decision to

Brilliant Film Noir - 4.5 out of 5 (10/18/2001)
This film is a brilliant cult classic from the leading film making team the Coen Brothers that made Fargo and the Big Lebowski, and who are easily becoming two of the best film makers in the industry. This, there first film forshadows that their career would not become a one hit wonder. Instead it illustrates their brilliance.
