In 1988, the landmark Anime film Akira, by director Katsuhiro Otomo, defined the cutting edge of Anime around the world. By today's standards, Akira remains a landmark achievement in cel animation and retains the explosive impact of its highly detailed animation and its intensely violent saga of power and corruption. Pioneer Entertainment proudly presents this classic film, completely restored and digitally re-mastered.

Childhood friends Tetsuo and Kaneda's motorcycle gang encounters a military operation to retrieve an escaped experimental subject. The military captures Tetsuo and conducts experiments on him that unleash his latent psychic ability, but when these new powers rage out of control, Tetsuo lashes out at the world that has oppressed him!

Ready or not, the time has come for Akira - 5 out of 5  (5/23/2003)
The year is 2019, the third world war proved to be yet another devastating reminder of human judgment and frailty. The place is Neo-Tokyo, the home of millions people, much like ourselves, lost or blind, but all looking to fill the inner void that permeates so many contemporary societies. Ready or not, criminal or innocent, the people of Neo-Tokyo are about to witness the next step in human evolution... Akira. Akira is one of the most spectacular animations to have ever come out of Japan   more >>

Fantastic DVD restoration edition of a controversial Anime classic. - 4.25 out of 5  (12/8/2003)
Katsuhiro Otomo's ¥1.1 billion animated adaptation of his 2,000+ page graphic novel, AKIRA, is considered by many to be the pinnacle of Japanese animation, but I'm going to take an unpopular stand and say that I can't bring myself to consider it one of my favorite movies. The best anime dvd out! - 5 out of 5  (8/24/2001)
This dvd rocks! It has 2 disks, tons of special features, a new remastered sound track, a remastered video, a sweet tin case, and new dubbs! Speaking of dubbs, for some reason there is some talk bout how terrible it is that they changed the old horrible dubbs. I don't mind and don't let that scare you from buying thisanime masterpeice.   more >>
