Empire Review Godzilla (1998) - 4.25 out of 5  (11/10/1998) The Movie: The most famous lizard of all time is back and this time he is heading towards the Big Apple, New York City. Now an unusual group of heros must defeat the mighty beast before he destroys the entire city. This nineties version of Godzilla features a newly redesigned beast as well as a new setting and great special effects. Does this mean that the movie is great? In a word, no. As pure mindless entertainment, yes the movie is somewhat good. Jurassic Park stormed theatres but Godzilla was nowhere to be seen. Four years later a simple dark poster with "size does matter" was released as we discovered the duo behind ID4 would be working on this film. So where this movie go wrong?
