"Truly horrifying." -Los Angeles Times
Welcome to the world of the Scanners - a race of humans with telekinetic powers that can wreak havoc beyond your most dreaded nightmare. Writer/director David Cronenberg (The Fly, Naked Lunch) brings the terror closer than ever before - he brings it right into your mind. Cronenberg is a modern-day horror master whose name fits easily with the likes of King, Craven and Carpenter... and Scanners, with its spectacular and shockingly realistic special effects, is a startling masterpiece of the genre.
When a rogue Scanner of unparalleled power (Michael Ironside) wages a bloody war against the "normals," young empath Cameron Vale (Stephen Lack) is recruited to track him down. But Vale is inexperienced - and a battle with another Scanner could mean a grisly death... or worse. Can Vale vanquish his insanely violent, power-mad adversary? Only one thing is certain: Scanners "delivers the chills-down-your-spine, heart-in-your-throat, you-can't-watch-but-you-daren't-leave goods" (Time)!

eh! - 2.75 out of 5 (8/20/2001)
Director David Cronenberg has a loyal cult following that loves his visceral
brand of horror, but his films have also missed part of their audience
because they might have been too complicated to follow.
SCANNERS is a perfect example of that scenario. The film is known as his
first storng commercial work and it was the first film that made the leap
into the American Cinema. The problem is that the film starts off slow,
becomes slower and then moves into a bang up ending that left m

No major problems, just the theatrical trailer and the transfer. - 3.5 out of 5 (7/22/2003)
First off, I rented this movie, and, as usual, watched the theatrical trailer. Damn, the trailer was only about 55 seconds! Mono, but I APPRECIATE original soundtracks, unlike the first two reviewers. Great movie, shocking ending (The Brothers fighting each other with their mind) and just a great film.

Mono=good....does anyone hear appreciate original soundtracks? - 4.5 out of 5 (9/8/2002)
The film is great..& this is the best the it will ever look i'm sure,which may not be saying much..still the dvd is better than previous video releases.
Now about the sound. I see the few comments here complaining about the film being in mono. Well i have news for you,the film was ALWAYS released in mono,since that is the original soundtrack!
There is nothing wrong with it. Would you rather them tamper with the soundtrack & record new effects & so on,just to create a artifical 5.1 soundt
