Sooner or lateria man who wears two faces forgets which one isireal.
Guilty? Innocent? Those questions aren't for high-powered Chicago attorney Martin Vail (Richard Gere) to decide. His job is to defend--especially if a case will put his name in the headlines and further his career.
When Vail hears that a penniless altar boy (Edward Norton) is accused of murdering the local archbishop, he snaps up the case, eager for the media spotlight. Little does he know that it will uncover a viper's nest of corruption, pit him against a prosecutor who's his ex-lover, and test all his skills, judgment and even his win-at-any-cost attitude.

Read the book - 2.5 out of 5 (2/9/2002)
Plot:
I read the book. I was amazed of it's suspense and also the clever plot and then went to see the movie.
BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! Not only changed the characters but also the clever story was simplified to the chase and some made up lovestory, that was totally the other way in the book. Watch Matlock he's the better actor and the story usually is more thrilling. I feel sorry...

The image is fair but not above average

Edward Norton steals the movie... - 3.75 out of 5 (8/30/1999)
Edward norton has been a favorite of mine since seeing american history X in theaters and this movie helps solidify that feeling. He is amazing in this role and a great role it is. The entire movie is good and has great plot twists throughout.
Video is very disappointing here. Many images lack detail on this disc and i assume that is due to the low bit rate. Rarely did it jump above 5 on my scale and never came anywhere near 10. Also in numerous scenes when a shot changes to a new shot,

One of the Best Courtroom Thrillers Ever...... - 4.5 out of 5 (5/18/1999)
There have been dozens and dozens of courtroom thrillers to come to the screen, but "Primal Fear" is without a doubt one the best ever made. It is a very well written, extremely well acted tale of a complex murder case. One reason it's so great is Richard Gere. His performance as defense attourney Martin Vail is his best performance ever. He's cocky, smarmy, and devilishly charming. He's always looking to win a huge case that will increase his fame and reputation. Enter Aaron Stampler (Edward No
