Mel Brooks' monstrously crazy tribute to Mary Shelley's classic pokes hilarious fun at just about every Frankenstein movie ever made. Summoned by a will to his late grandfather's castle in Transylvania, young Dr. Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) soon discovers the scientist's step-by-step manual explaining how to bring a corpse to life. Assisted by the hunchbacked Igor (Marty Feldman) and the curvaceous Inga (Teri Garr), he creates a monster (Peter Boyle) who only wants to be loved.

A monstrously funny movie - 3.25 out of 5 (4/25/2000)
Young Frankenstein" has its place as one of the all-time best satires but it sort of pales in comparison to other Mel Brooks films. This of course is only my opinion!
This is not for lack of trying, but if you look at the film on a per-minute punchline ratio; you will see that this has 176 compared to the 249 punchlines used in "Spaceballs."
I'm kidding! Like I would actually sit and count the punchlines!
I'm not that obsessive, but it is a valid point. The humor in this film is much m

One of the funniest comedies of all-time! - 5 out of 5 (8/29/2002)
"Young Frankenstein" is the movie that stars Gene Wilder as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, the grandson of the famous scientist who goes to Transylvania. There he meets Igor, Inga, and Frau Blucher. "Young Frankenstein" is a movie that you should own on DVD if you have a DVD player, just like I do. A funny and hilarious movie!

This movie is more fun than a roll in ze hay! - 4.25 out of 5 (3/4/2002)
It's Alive! This is a classic. Unlike so many other spoofs (including some of Brooks' latest works), this movie really plays on all levels. The comedy is genius (screenplay by Wilder & Brooks), the performances by the entire cast is superb, the camera work and set design are incredible (some of the set pieces were used in the original Frankenstein), and the Black & White presentation really sets a nice mood. Although I love this movie, I was doubly joyed to find such a nice version on DVD. The p

Wilder wasn't even nominated?? - 3.75 out of 5 (10/9/2001)
As Mel Brooks says in his commentary, Gene Wilder deserved to win a Best Actor that year, but wasn't even... Damn Academy, they surely overlooked his finest performance...although, you could say the same for Feldman, Garr, and Kahn. The lighting in this film is fantastic, superior cinematography. And oh, the script...urinate before you see this one. You'll surely piss your pants laughing so hard.
