The only witnessito theicrime was not even there.
OscarŽ-nominee and Golden Globe Winner Cate Blanchett leads an incredible all-star cast including Academy AwardŽ-winner Hilary Swank (Boys Don't Cry), Keanu Reeves (The Matrix), Katie Holmes (Wonder Boys), Giovanni Ribisi (Saving Private Ryan), and OscarŽ-nominated Greg Kinnear (As Good As It Gets) in this stylishly filmed mystery that's as eerie as a backwoods swamp with a dark secret beneath its even darker surface.
Widow and mother of three, Annie Wilson (Blanchett), makes her living by foretelling others' futures...though her own has become cloudier than even she can see. Threatened by client's violently jealous husband (Reeves) and plagues by visions of a missing town-girl (Holmes), Annie is unwittingly pulled into a thicket of lies and deception in which her extraordinary gift could be used against her...and get her killed.
Written by Billy Bob Thornton (Sling Blade) and Tom Epperson (A Family Thing), and directed by Sam Raimi (A Simple Plan), The Gift is a gripping tale of supernatural intrigue...and chilling terror.

The Georgia Bayou has always been a great setting for a murder mystery, and
THE GIFT is basically a murder mystery in sheep's clothing at heart. That
is, of course if the sheep are wearing tuxedos these days.
The movie is a paradox. It is complex and yet deceptively simple. Some
characters are rich and others seem like they were taken off a stock list
for a Georgia Bayou character. I spent equal amounts of time watching this
film thinking "That couldn't happen" and others thinking,

Fake Shemps make great Movies! - 4.5 out of 5 (4/16/2002)
Although this movie did poorly in it's theatrical release, at least it seems to be getting the credit it deserves in the Video market. It's an incredible film! And who do we have to thank for it? Sam "Evil Dead" Raimi! Now i'm looking forward to his newest film...
SPIDER-MAN! SPIDER-MAN! DOES WHATEVER A SPIDER CAN!

Creepy, Sexy, Great.... - 4.25 out of 5 (4/15/2002)
This is one of the better thrillers i have seen in a while. When you see this movie you immediatly think of that other movie... "What Lies Beneath" at least i did... the plot is different, but it is the same kind of thriller and the suspense is almost identical...only i think the acting is a lot better in this movie. Cate blanchet plays perfect as the psychic, Keanu plays a good bad guy (LOL), Katie Holmes plays the sexy slut and Giovanni Ribisi plays the screwed-up mechanic... Al in all they al
