The 1977 Horror film RUBY is nothing more than a quickie knock-off of Brian DePalma's CARRIE the previous year (1976), trying to cash in on that film's success not fully realized. It was not the only film to do this, but was one of the first. The original United Artists had given CARRIE a wide release and it did well, but DePalma (among others) felt the studio could have had a mega-hit the size of William Friedkin's THE EXORCIST (1973) instead of the decent hit they landed up with.
