Empire Review A fantastic feel good comedy - 4.25 out of 5  (3/15/2000) The movie "Roxanne" sits firmly on my list of top-ten films of all time. The movie is smart, funny, cute, romantic, charming and it's done by Steve Martin. You can't ask for much more than that. The film is a very loose retelling of Cyrano De Bergerac done through the twisted views of Martin. He plays C.D. Bales who is the fire chief of a small skiing town in Washington State. His best friend (Shelly Duvall) is the owner of the only bar/restaurant in town. Steve Martin is fanastic, nothing new there.Great date movie!!   more >> Customer Review A NOSE IN THE SKY - 4 out of 5  (2/11/1999) In my opinion, ROXANNE could have been a masterpiece if director Fred SCHEPISI hadn't mixed too many different genres in one movie. So you will find in ROXANNE burlesque scenes one would have rather seen in 1915-1920 slapstick comedies, romantic moments, Steve-one man show-Martin and Daryl-no show-Hannah. The result is a movie which won't stay in your memory but will relax you this evening. Typically a DVD to rent.   more >>
