Synopsis
"A slammin' combo of dance andidrama…" -- US Weekly

Sara (Julia Stiles) is a small-town girl with a big dream: to become a world-class ballerina. But when her mother suddenly dies, Sara must abandon her plans and join her estranged father (Terry Kinney) on Chicago's gritty South Side. A white girl in a predominantly black neighborhood, Sara feels out of place - until she is befriended by a black classmate, Chenille (Kerry Washington), and her handsome brother, Derek (Sean Patrick Thomas). Sparks fly between Sara and Derek, whose shared love for dance leads to romance. But as Sara and Derek's relationship grows, so does opposition from their families and friends. Now Sara and Derek face the biggest challenge of their young lives - to stay true to their dreams... and each other.

Pulsing with the beats of today's hottest hip-hop music, Save The Last Dance "will have you dancing in your seat." -Shawn Edwards, NBC-TV

A Great Dance Movie. Cute Babes. - 4.5 out of 5  (9/22/2001)
This is a great film for moms and young girls. My daughter loved the dancing. And Julie Stiles -- in her role as a young dancer, Sara, who gives up ballet after her mother dies and who goes to live with her Jazz playing father in the inner city -- is gorgeous. The dancing is wonderful, both the ballet and the hip-hop done by Sara and her beau, Derek. If you have any fears that your daughter will grow up to marry a black man, you shouldn't see this movie. Save as a Surprise - 4.5 out of 5  (8/20/2001)
Enthusiasm wasn't exactly the adjective I was looking for to describe my mood before watching "Save the Last Dance". It was of curiosity. Could this be another "Flashdance" or "Dirty Dancing movie"? Bad boy with heart of gold meets Miss Goody, goody too shoes in the background of a great soundtrack. It didn't even take the completion of the opening credits for me to get excited about this film. Although, the premise of the story is the usual modern-day Romeo and Juliet, the film deeply co   more >>

Save the Last Dance... - 4 out of 5  (7/26/2001)
This is a good film that will entartain you for about 2 hours and then it is out of your mind.Dont get me wrong, film is good and enjoyable but nothing new. I liked plot,it is in between 2 people in different races and their courage to stay together. Music in the film is hip-hop style.People dance, laugh, swear and so on..... Julia Stiles is making a good forune with these kind of teen-flicks......   more >>
