We Are Not Alone.
Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment proudly presents the definitive director's cut of Steven Spielberg's masterpiece. "Literate in plotting and dazzling in execution," Close Encounters of the Third Kind is "an absolute stunner!" (Variety)
And now for the first time on DVD, Steven Spielberg's enduring achievement can be seen and enjoyed as he has always intended, in this director's cut, remastered from the original film elements. "Of all the UFO films ever made this is the most edifying... a feast for the eyes! The appeal of this film was enormous and still is." (The Motion Picture Guide)

We are not alone - 4.5 out of 5 (6/3/2001)
We are not alone. That was the phrase that Steven Spielberg came up with to get us from looking at the ocean to looking at the skies. Close Encounters of the Third Kind is the story of Roy Neary, a normal, average family man who one night has an encounter with a UFO. The encounter turns his life into upheaval as he becomes consumed with finding out the truth behind the occurrence. He is met with resistance every step of the way from both his family and the government, the same government who are

Watch The Skies! - 4.5 out of 5 (5/22/2001)
World War II aircraft missing since 1945 suddenly appear undamaged and as good as new in the desert. In Indianapolis, an airliner has a near collision with a strange object. In Muncie, Indiana, a power line worker comes face to face with strange objects in the sky.
These are the opening scenes of one of the most spectacular science fiction movies of all time, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Now, for the first time, one of the most popular movies ever made makes its way to the DV

A ok re-edit..but the original is best!! - 4 out of 5 (10/13/2002)
The films a masterpiece. So i don't think i need to explain why.Though to me...the original 1977 version IS a masterpiece..while the two versions released since are merly good-ok films(the 1980 SE being horrible!).
Sadly since Spielberg is insecure about his work.He had to go tamper with the film again & again..& the original version as never been released on any home video format besides the Criterion laserdisc(which i own & it's great!).
So the film rating above is for this version of

Close Encounters -- strong disc - 3.75 out of 5 (4/11/2002)
Everyone in the know, and I say that with all humility, wants the Criterion lasterdisc package released on DVD, but that according to one of their reps. I emailed, is never gonna happen because they permanently lost the rights to release their own material on close encounters. The still own it, but ....
In the meanwhile, this is a fine release with a terrific documentary by Laurent Bouzerau, (sp.?) the documentary filmmaker responsible for all those wonderful documenatries on the Hitchcock DVD

Great Movie - DVD could be better. - 4.25 out of 5 (3/4/2002)
This is one of my favorite alien movies, and probably one of the most unique. However, the DVD isn't nearly as good as it could have been. The fact that you can't choose which version of the movie you want to watch (Original or Director's), the lack of a commentary, and the stupid packaging keep this DVD from being great.
The lack of choice for the two versions is a small problem, but it is still annoying. Spielberg had to rush the original version to the theaters for financial reasons. After
