Great Film Amazing DVD - 4.5 out of 5 (8/9/2001)
Ok, I do not think that I really need to talk about the film, so I will talk specifically about the DVD only.
Picture: Finally Criterion picked up this amazing film and gave us the royal treatment. First thing to notice is the 'anamorphic transfer' YEAH! It certainly shows here! A beautifully shot film is brilliantly dispayed here and is far superior to the prior Universal release so much that they should duck their heads in the sand. "I love you, Spartacus." - 4.5 out of 5 (6/27/2001)
By far one of the greatest DVDs ever put together. A damn fine film, if not a classic, digitally restored (from the restored print previously released on other VHS, Laserdisc, and DVD editions) and filled to bursting with secondary works that will enhance the experience for any film enthusiast. The evenly arranged commentary track is from the laserdisc edition (as is evident by Kirk Douglas's pre-stroke voice.) This version of Spartacus is 10 times greater than the original DVD. The special features are worth the extra money. Another great job by Criterion!
