Sweet but not soft - 4.25 out of 5 (4/26/1999)
A brilliant adapatation of the classic Rohald Dahl story. It should be emphasised that this really is a film for children of all ages - I'm 53 and loved it.
The anamorphic transfer is top class, as is the sound considering its vintage.

A great home theather experience - 4 out of 5 (12/30/1998)
A very good family movie for all to enjoy. Three generations watched this DVD and we all found it both entertaining and educational.
The film and sound were both very good. The songs were enjoyable to listen to, the dialogue was very clear and the scenes inside the factory were delightful to watch.
We enjoyed the extra features that were included on the DVD. There should have been a feature put in about the restoration work done for the 25th anniversary release.
Value for money.

A world of pure imagination! - 4.75 out of 5 (7/13/1998)
Feel like a kid all over again...treat yourself to this movie!
This is the first time I've seen this film in letterbox, and it makes all the difference, especially with the lush sets and multiple characters.
The video transfer is first rate. The chocolate factory has never looked so delicious!
This is a terrific family film--bright, colorful, well performed, and filled with wonderful songs, as well as a lesson or two to be learned along the way. Gene Wilder shines in the title role, a role
