Synopsis When they put their heads together...it'sia no brainer. John Travolta and Lisa Kudrow make a "high-energy comedy team" (David Sheehan, CBS-TV) in this side-splittingly funny comedy inspired by a real-life scam to win the Pennsylvania lottery. Travolta "is truly irresistible" (Sandie Newton, CBS-TV) as Russ Richards, a weatherman in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Russ is a local celebrity, but when an unusually mild winter causes his snowmobile dealership to take a plunge, Russ needs a get-rich scheme -- and fast. With his greedy girlfriend (Kudrow) -- the TV station's lotto-ball girl -- and a criminally minded buddy (Tim Roth), Russ hatches a plan to fix the lottery. Russ's numbers come up right, but then everything goes completely wrong, throwing Russ and his co-conspirators into comic chaos. Empire Review Maybe not so lucky - 3.75 out of 5  (4/12/2001) I found myself having to rewind the disc quite a few times during LUCKY NUMBERS. I'm not quite sure whether this was because the film was confusing or I'm merely stupid. I hope for the former but I suspect the latter is truer. LUCKY NUMBERS is one of those caper films that never quite lets on that it' s a caper film. I consider it a huge success for the star, John Travolta, whose previous film was the debacle known as Battlefield Earth. Ironically, Lucky Numbers wasn't too lucky at the box office, ranking in even less numbers than Battlefield Earth did. Thankfully, it did garner few more positive reviews, and proved that Mr. Travolta, like any brilliant actor, can bounce back from a movie disaster and deliver his absolute best.
