"Brilliant. A Work Of Art." -Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times
Darren Aronofsky, director of the critical smash Pi, follows up his acclaimed debut with a gritty, stylish, emotionally charged story of love, loss, drugs and dreams amid the faded glory of Coney Island. Intricately linking the lives of a struggling, small-time drug dealer (Jared Leto), his pill-popping mother (Ellen Burstyn), his upper-class girlfriend (Jennifer Connelly) and his best friend (Marlon Wayans), Requiem For A Dream is a hypnotic tale of four human beings each pursuing their vision of happiness. Even as everything begins to fall apart, they refuse to let go, plummeting with their dreams into a nightmarish, gut-wrenching freefall.

Total assault on the senses, and sensibility... - 4.25 out of 5 (6/11/2001)
Every once in a while a movie comes along that sends the industry into a new direction. The path less traveled, so to speak. Darren Aronofsky did so initially with his critically acclaimed,"Pi", and there was no hint of a sophmore jinx here. REQUIEM flat out levels you. It had been a while since I sat amongst viewers of a film, and everyone sat in awe of what they had just seen. I had never seen the visual definition of disturbing until this film came along. I couldn't wait for the DVD. Let

My absolute favorite film - 4.5 out of 5 (3/15/2005)
Requiem For A Dream is an amazing film. Darren Aronofsky follows up his terrific sci-fi thriller Pi with this gritty, edgy and powerful masterpiece of artwork. It tells the horrifying and sad story of four people, including a TV-obsessed widow and her druggie son, and their downward spiral brought on by addiction.
Ellen Burstyn delivers an Oscar-caliber performance (as always). Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly and Marlon Wayans are all excellent as well. The visuals are unbelievab

Something to behold! - 5 out of 5 (3/20/2002)
This film goes down hard in one's mind. It is a reality check and should be shown to students taking anti-drug courses. Disturbing masterpiece with some really awesome editing and the score that adds to the whole experience. See it and buy it and see it again.
