Synopsis
When his spacecraft is shot down over Wisconsin, Starman (Bridges) arrives at the remote cabin of a distraught young widow, Jenny Hayden (Karen Allen), and clones the form of her dead husband. The alien convinces Jenny to drive him to Arizona, explaining that if he isn't picked up by his mothership in three days, he'll die. Hot on their trail are government agents, intent on capturing the alien, dead or alive. En route, Starman demonstrates the power of universal love, while Jenny rediscovers her human feelings for passion.

However, this alien is not encountered to nicely, instead the government and the Air Force sends a missile his way and knock him off course to his mother ship, causing him to crash land on a farm in Wisconsin during the night. Carpenter unmasked - 3.5 out of 5  (4/8/2001)
Director John Carpenter while having received praise by most critics for his film 'Starman' has surprisingly received somewhat negative feedback from his legions of adoring fans on a film that is really well done and perhaps one of the most touching 'man from another planet' films to be churned out of the 80's. My only reasoning for why so many Carpenter fans would want to grill him for this truly touching film is the fact that there isn't a white masked serial killer showcased within it! It see   more >>

SCARMAN - 4 out of 5  (3/20/1999)
STARMAN seems to be a meteor in John Carpenter's career. Charming love story, adult E.T. variation or maybe a close encounter of the Carpenter's kind. What has attracted our fetish director in this subject ? One has to remember that John Carpenter has always had a predilection for rebellious characters. In Starman, this role is held by the civil head of extra-terrestrial affairs. In fact, it was easy to recognize him since he is the only one who has a furious taste for the cigars.
