"Satisfying, beautifully paced andiintelligently worked-out. It excitesiin theiway that movies used to." -Roger Angell, The New Yorker
Jesse James and his gang of outlaws ride again in this "extraordinary" (Los Angeles Herald-Examiner) western that pulsates with hard-driving action and electrifying drama. Four sets of acclaimed actor brothers -- Dennis and Randy Quaid, Stacy and James Keach, Christopher and Nicholas Guest and Keith, Robert and David Carradine -- each depict real-life siblings in emotionally charged portrayals of the Old West's legendary bandits.
The notorious James-Younger gang is the most famous group of outlaws in the country, robbing banks, trains and stagecoaches with a sense of daring that makes them folk heroes throughout the land. But when the mighty Pinkerton detective agency swears to track them down, these criminals must face an awesome enemy that will stop at nothing to see them behind bars...or dead! Only through the strength of their loyalty and blood ties can the outlaws hope to survive the brutal pursuits, unexpected betrayals and blistering showdowns that mark the end of their dangerous ride.

A long time coming - 3 out of 5 (7/27/2001)
THE LONG RIDERS is a movie that is supposedly based on the facts behind the
legend of the James-Younger gang that tore through many a small town in the
latter part of the 1800's. The odd thing is that those facts have been
disputed for years, because it's been no secret that their adventures were
turned into yarns for the dime store novels that fed the country in those
days.
Walter Hill directed the film and he is no stranger to the action yarn. He
directed this after coming off

Pure escapism for a western fan! - 4.25 out of 5 (9/26/2002)
I have long thought this to be a very underrated western. Starring three sets of brothers and featuring some very well known and respected actors this movie really captures the romance and spirit so often associated with Jesse James (even if the truth was something far less). The movie does do some very historically accurate things and the soundtrack featuring Ry Cooder is perfect to set the mood. Fast paced and very watchable this is a must have for all western fans.
