Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely.
He was where he shouldn't have been and saw what he shouldn't have seen. Now, who will believe the word of a career thief and ex-con? Who will trust Luther Whitney when he says he saw a woman killed--and that the man responsible for her death is the President of the United States?
Clint Eastwood portrays Whitney and directs this crisp, finely acted thriller based on David Baldacci's best-selling novel. A stellar cast which includes Gene Hackman and Ed Harris creates well-rounded characters that intensify a constantly spiraling game of cat and mouse between Whitney, local police and the highest levels of White House power. Eastwood is a master at steadily raising the stakes in thrillers. Here his mastery in absolute.

THE MAN BEHIND THE MIRROR - 4.25 out of 5 (1/26/1999)
The most important scene of ABSOLUTE POWER takes place in the middle of the movie when Luther's daughter is visiting her father's house. There, she realizes that Luther has always been at her side during her career, taking secretly pictures of her.
In fact, Luther is never where you expect him to be. He is the witness of a crime but stays invisible behind a mirror, he is a burglar at night and a painter during the day. He likes to disguise and disappear but is never more than a block away fro

A good thriller but below par for Eastwood - 4 out of 5 (11/21/1998)
If you watch this movie and you have never seen or heard of Clint Eastwood before you will probably enjoy it. There are a few suspenseful moments and a great escape sequence in a crowded restaurant to keep the viewer interested. But for Eastwood fans out there like myself, this movie does not live up to his ability. You can tell he is bored with the role he plays. The actual disc it noe bad. The transfer is good and the audio is great. The features are plentiful but not much of interest. A kind-

Absolute Power IS corrupt. - 2.75 out of 5 (7/19/1998)
Who would have thought such a talented cast, renowned screenwriter, and veteran director could have made such a lousy movie? Clint Eastwood has made some terrific films like Bird and Unforgiven, but he fails miserably in his attempt to make a suspense thriller. He could take some tips from Hitchcock. For instance, suspense does NOT involve putting of the inevitable for as long as possible. It takes a full half hour for the event you probably already know kicks off the plot to even happen. T
