Customer Review Very good transfer - 3.75 out of 5  (10/1/2002) I waited for a long for this DVD's release. The transfer is superb and the audio very nicely serves the beautiful music. As opposed to other opinions, I have to admit that Valmont arrives ex-aequo with the equally superb "Dangerous Liaisons" starring Glenn Close and John Malkovich. Both movies treat the story with a different "pizzaz". The latter is rather gloom and has a sense of dark destiny in the making. "Valmont" is more playful in its treatment. Colin Firth plays the title role as the quintessential French aristocrat, always dressed superbly, well skilled in walking, speaking, duelling, writing flowery letters and court dancing. In addition to all of this, Valmont is a rake of the highest persuasion, surpassing even Don Juan and Tom Jones.
