Empire Review Not at all what it seems - 4 out of 5  (6/25/2001) CHUCK & BUCK was the darling of last years Sundance film festival and it's fairly easy to see why this little gem actually made such a ruckus. The film was based on an idea from Mike White, Producer of Freaks & Geeks and Paul and Chris Weitz, the two writers behind last years AMERICAN PIE. It tells the story of a simple childhood friendship and how it turns into a case of stalking. Buck (Mike White) is the center of the film. Difficult to describe but the term 'wickedly funny' comes to mind. Picture quality is rather interesting with this film. It was shot in digital video and transferred to film for theatrical release, and then transferred here back from film. The picture has a unique look to it, sort of low-quality-ish but it suits the film rather well.
