Underdogs become top dogs in this fun-filled, rough-and-fumble comedy that's "the best football movie of the last few years" (Larry Stewart, Los Angles Times).
Keanu Reeves plays Shane Falco, a washed-out all-American QB who guides a team of misfits assembled by veteran coach Jimmy McGinty (Gene Hackman) to replace striking pro players. A motormouth receiver (Orlando Jones), a merciless linebacker (Jon Favreau), a nicotine-wired kicker (Rhys Ifans) and more line up alongside Falco for a drive to the playoffs. For sultry support, there's cheerleader Annabelle Farrell (Brooke Langton) and her ex-stripper squad. "Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory lasts forever," Falco tells his team. It's a game plan that works to perfection.

I've seen this before but so what! - 4.25 out of 5 (11/22/2000)
I was watching "The Replacements" last night and my wife walked in and asked, "What's this?" I just gave her a blank stare because it's hard to believe that she never heard of a film starring two heavyweights like Gene Hackman and Keanu Reeves. After I thought about it for a few minutes and I realized she probably wasn't in the minority.
The film did a respectable 45 million in the box, but with those two actors in it, it should have cleared twice that. I then went to the critical summarie

An updated Major League. - 4 out of 5 (2/19/2001)
As a big, big fan of Major League, I had to watch this film, I wasn't disapointed, although not as good, it was a laugh. Picture quality is superb, but where oh where is MAJOR LEAGUE, we don't want the sequels, give us the ORIGINAL NOW. (please)

Replace that empty space on your shelf with this - 4 out of 5 (12/16/2000)
When I saw the trailer in theaters, I thought, "Oh no, another sports movie" with all the standard sports cliches. While THE REPLACEMENTS does indeed include these cliches, it suprisingly moved and involved me. While watching it for the second time, I came to this conclusion: The football footage is miles better than a lot of other films (esp. ANY GIVEN SUNDAY) and watching the Making Of really helped with that "reality." The music/score was very effective and pumped me up for the scenes. Th
