Who delivers ten times out of ten? Samuel L. Jackson is Shaft, the man and the movie. John Singleton (Boyz 'N' The Hood), directs this gritty action packed thriller.
With Uncle John Shaft (Richard Roundtree reprising his original role) as mentor, it's no surprise that today's Shaft is the coolest dude and the hottest action around. To stop a racist killer (Christian Bale) Shaft's got to track down the only eyewitness that can put him behind bars (Toni Colette). As Shaft closes in, so does the danger. Armed with attitude and up against corrupt cops and venomous druglords he's out to make crime pay up.

You Damn right! - 4.75 out of 5 (12/1/2000)
I remember hearing about a possible remake of "Shaft" and thinking that there was no way anybody could ever get the character right in a remake.
I remember hearing a day later that John Singleton was going to make the film, and my thoughts brightened up a bit. I figured if there was anyone with enough respect and savvy to do the film justice, it was him. Still, I was not convinced.
I remember the next new bulletin I heard was that Samuel L. Jackson was going to play the title role, and tha

I love this movie! - 4.75 out of 5 (4/10/2003)
this movie is action from beginning to end. No matter how many times I see it, I am still energized from it. Great work as always from Mr. Jackson! Thank you Mr. Singleton for dealing with real issues related to Black America, as always right on the mark.

Fair movie, wrong Shaft. - 3 out of 5 (12/20/2000)
I really like Sam Jackson as an actor. However, he's too old to play Shaft. Wesley Snipes would have been better simply because he could have generated better fight scenes which are lacking in participation by Jackson because he's a little too old. Also, nothing creative was done with the rear channels on the sound although the front soundstage was clean. However, the rear channels were rarely used. Any movie maker who fails to take advantage of the rear channels in 5.1 DD and 5.1 and 6.1 DTS ha

Whats my name... - 4.25 out of 5 (12/14/2000)
Great film , Great disc. Paramount must be congratulated for their best transfer yet. The picture quality on this disc is up there with the best and the audio is great too.If you have dolby digital decoding crank up your system because you've never heard isaac hayes score sound so good , the music kicks ass in this film and hopefully your system will deliver the experience mine did !!. Features are reasonable , good to see paramount getting better with their bonus materials after a shaky start.
