The year isi2013. One man walkediin off theihorizon andihope came with him.
Set in 2013, after the war has destroyed most of USA, including the government. A solitary traveler (played by Kevin Costner) is captured by a fascist military group called the Holnists led by Hitler-like General Bethlehem. When he escapes from the Holnists he finds an abandoned mail Jeep and uniform, and starts to travel through small cities, telling them he is a postman, a representative of the restored United States. No one believes him at first, but soon he has followers, and they start to prepare a revolt against Holnists.

A DELIVERY OF HOPE - 4 out of 5 (5/25/2001)
Where else can you get warfare, drama, romance, patriotism, and some clever funny scenes, you may ask? Well all the above-mentioned can be found in ONE film at ONE time in THE POSTMAN. Although the critics delivered negative reviews of this movie I think they were a tad bit unfair. The plot line is strong and reinforces what our country is built on, i.e. the government and American Pride. The Movie:
War has ravaged the United States, the government is gone and the survivors are scattered across the country. Can any hope be brought back to this once great land?

I was debating whether or not to write a review for dvdempire.com, as there have been so many customer reviews for The Postman, the fact that I actually enjoyed it will come as no surprise, considering many (33 people, to be exact) share this opinion. However, it's 3:30 A.M. and I just finished watching it, so in this sleep-deprived state that I'm currently in, I think this is a good idea, so listen up.

An outstanding film! I believe its Kevin Costners greatest performance ever! If you dont think so you should at least consider it to be in the top 5 he has ever done. If you have never seen this before, dont even bother renting it, buy it you will be glad you did!

It is really strange to observe how american critics and moviegoers like to burn what they have adored. Kevin Costner is suffering now from the " CHAPLIN-WELLES-LEWIS " syndrome. Should he tomorrow present the film of the century, he would certainly be treated as less than nothing. Absolutely amazing since the hero of THE POSTMAN is undoubtedly a brother of the leading character depicted in DANCES WITH WOLVES, a movie that was a huge critical success.
