Synopsis
Everyone hasia wild side. Evenia legend.

Chpalin is a loving, grand scal portrait of the Little Tramp's amazing life and times. His poverty-stricken childhood in England comes to life, along with his friendships with Mack Sennet and Douglas Fairbanks, his many wives and scandelous affairs, and his relentless pursuit by J. Edgar Hoover. Chaplin is the larger-than-life story of the actor behind the icon and a stunning depiction of a bygone era when Hollywood was at its most glamorous.

Oh What could have been! - 3.75 out of 5  (8/24/2000)
The life of Robert Downey Jr. Has been something of atumultuous one. A rollercoaster of applauded roles and bad life decisions have assured him a place in infamy. But, just we are clear, you have not wandered onto the local internet gossip sheet. This review has none of the spicy stuff about Downey, other than the fact that this ironically made him a perfect choice to play Charlie Chaplin who was also guilty of some poor decisions. Downey plays the role perfectly, as he seems to have the   more >>

A Must-See - 4.75 out of 5  (1/30/2006)
I first saw this movie on cable TV and I had to own it on DVD. Robert Downey Jr. is brilliant in this movie and has a great supporting cast. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry. It focuses on Chaplin's somewhat dark side, but it also explores his genius as a filmmaker and director. If you love Charlie Chaplin it a definite must-see!   more >>

Great film to own - 4.75 out of 5  (9/21/1998)
This is a great film, without a doubt. The acting is superb, not only by Robert Downey jr., but by the rest of the amazing cast that Sir Richard Attenborough gathered. The story is quite fascinating, and the costumes and cinematography are tops. This, of course, is not a hi-tech, special effects kind of movie, so the extras on the DVD are basically on Chaplin's career and life - the take on him by Attenborough is too short. In any case, they suit this DVD fine. This is a really, really goo   more >>

A good film-tribute to Charles Chaplin a master in silence comedy. - 4.75 out of 5  (7/15/1998)
This film really fills your heart with a great chemistry. Robert Downey Jr´s best role ever as Charles Chaplin who brought so much joy in the youth of film-making. Kevin Kline makes a heart-filling performance Douglas Fairbanks. And the film also has other good actors like Anthony Hopkins, Dan Aykroyd, Paul Rhys, James Woods, Kevin Dunne and actresses like Chaplin´s daughter Geraldine Chaplin as his mommy Hannah, Marisa Tomei, Penelope Ann Miller, Moira Kelly, Nancy Travis, Diane Lane, Milla Jo   more >>
