"Handsomely filmed series." -THE SUNDAY TELEGRAPH
Sharpe (Sean Bean) must do battle with a gang of deserters who have taken hostages, including Isabella (Elizabeth Hurley), the wife of Sir Augustus Farthingdale, the English Colonel.
Sharpe is sent with the ransom money. All is not what it seems, for the leader of the desperados is none other than Sergeant Hakeswill, an evil villain from Sharpe's past. Hakeswill tricks Sharpe and insists that the ransom be doubled.
Sharpe leads an attack to free Isabella and destroy the force of deserters who Wellington (Hugh Fraser) fears pose a threat to the discipline of his men.

What heros are made of - 3.5 out of 5 (3/1/2001)
The whole series is about a common man who rose through the ranks much to the disgust of his fellow offices to take on the French during the Napoleonic wars. This is real old boy stuff with the hero and the villain not always predictable to the endings. There are another two series of the Sharpe chronicles that have not been released to video/dvd which is a shame as the story is only half told. You do not have to have all of them to enjoy the experience as each one is a story in itself. Shaun Be
