"…a shimmeringly beautiful andiwise reverie onilove andidesire…" -Kevin Thomas, LA Times
Lovingly directed by one of Italy's greatest filmmakers, Michelangelo Antonioni's award-winning Beyond the Clouds opened to great popular and critical acclaim in Europe, eclipsing its success when recently brought to American theaters. The film is the latest in Antonioni's long and distinguished film career, recognized in 1994 with an Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement.
Told from the perspective of a wandering film director, this exquisitely photographed, lyrical film, set in such beautiful European locales as Portofino and Paris, draws from Antonioni's own writing, weaving four stories of love and lust in several perplexing, unrequited or unresolved relationships.
Co-directed by Wim Wenders, the film boasts an outstanding international cast, including John Malkovich as the Director, Sophie Marceau, Irene Jacob, Jean Reno, Vincent Perez, and Peter Weller, as well as a moving musical score, including songs by Van Morrison, U2 and Brian Eno.
