Adventure Runs In The Family!
When the planet Krypton was destroyed in a cosmic holocaust that claimed its great civilization, Kal-El (known to Earth as Superman) was believed to be the only survivor -- until now...
Safely hidden in the void of inner-space is the Kryptonian city of Argo -- saved by the scientist Zaltar (Peter O'Toole) and powered by the magical Omegahedron. But now the city's vital power source has been lost, and only one courageous person can retrieve it! Her name is Kara...on Earth she is known as Supergirl (Helen Slater). Standing in her way is the evil sorceress Selena (Faye Dunaway) who has taken control of the fantastic power source. With her now super-powered black magic, the villainess is bent upon nothing less than world domination! Can Supergirl retrieve the Omegahedrom before it is too late?
Supergirl features an all-star cast: Faye Dunaway, Peter O'Toole, Hart Bochner, Peter Cook, Mia Farrow, Brenda Vaccaro, Simon Ward, and Helen Slater as Supergirl.
This Limited Edition double disc set contains two versions of the film: the International Version -- containing 10 minutes of footage no seen in the U.S. and presented in Widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound; and the Director's Cut -- containing 24 minutes of long lost and recently rediscovered footage presented here for the very first time! Adventure soars higher than ever before!

Superman's cousin visits earth to stop a super witch - 3.75 out of 5 (7/7/2003)
There are some movies that film lovers can discuss for hours on end. Others may be somewhat looked down upon by many such movie lovers. Supergirl has never been accused of being an intellectual film. It falls into that rarely admitted class of movies, the guilty pleasure. It's a fun movie. Nothing less but little more than that. When watching this film suspend reason, grab some popcorn and just sit back. The story line, what there is of it, centers on Kara, a Kryptonian girl that lives in Argo C

It's a bird, It's a plane, It's a cheap knock-off! - 4 out of 5 (8/8/2000)
When you think of the list of films that demand special treatment, "Supergirl" doesn't even end up on the top 200. The film was hardly a box office success. It did very poorly on video it's first time around and wound up consigned to the hell of public domain.
The new special edition of the film from Anchor Bay lifts the film up past those meager limitations and makes it something of a super film!
The idea wasn't original, even for the comic books. Kara was Kal-el's (Superman) cousin in

Soaring to new heights... - 4.75 out of 5 (8/13/2000)
Had SUPERGIRL been released in any other summer than the one of 1984, we might now
refer to this movie as SUPERGIRL 1, instead of contemplating why this movie never
caught on with fans. But in a summer that was filled with the likes of GHOSTBUSTERS,
INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE, GREMLINS, and STAR TREK III:
THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK, among others, it is no wonder SUPERGIRL didn't attract
the mass audience everyone involved with the film was hoping for. Add to that the fact
that during

I love this movie! - 3.5 out of 5 (8/10/2000)
This movie is great, it takes you back to childhood. I have been waiting for this movie to come out for 3 months. The wait is well worth it. The features are pretty cool, seeing that the movie is old, they could get some of the stuff they did.

This movie flops, but Helen Slater soars in this amazingly good DVD! - 4 out of 5 (8/10/2000)
Make no mistake about it: despite director Jeannot Szwarc's earnestness (as was obvious during his running commentary) and a charming performance by Helen Slater, SUPERGIRL is a terrible, terrible film with great flying scenes but poor stunts and special effects otherwise. It was a box-office flop back in 1984 and deserved no better. Between SUPERMAN III and SUPERMAN IV, SUPERGIRL still comes in dead last when it comes to any affection a comic book fanboy could have for those three super-flops.
