A great independent film by a great independent master - 4.5 out of 5 (9/10/2000)
Although the title sounds like a great action movie, those of you expecting a John Woo type action film will be greatly disappointed. This is a great independent film which is about people, not about action. It's a well acted and directed piece of work. Definitely not for everyone, but I think many will appreciate its intelligence and nuances. The dvd has some great features too.

Disappointing - 2.75 out of 5 (9/3/2000)
For several years I've attempted to live by the samurai no kokoroe, so I was naturally intrigued by the films premise, but though we hear plenty of samurai philosophy, the plot is too thin and the characters too shallow for us to see it in action, aside from the cliched 'loyalty to the master'. Ghostdog is just another gangster movie with the usual indestructible hitman. The quirky characters and cult cartoons seem forced, a failed attempt at Tarantino cool. And, worst of all for me, Ghostdog we
